Key milestones in Eco Energi’s history:
Following his BSc Hons in physical geography at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, Matthew went to the University of Bristol, completing a doctorate in Quaternary glacial and interglacial climate change. Matthew’s PhD gave him an in-depth understanding of the factors affecting climate change, both natural and man-made.
After completion of his PhD, Matthew went into the mobile phone industry working in customer services and sales for companies such as Singlepoint and Vodafone. In 2003 he was appointed Head of Buying for Phones 4U.
Keen to get back to his passion, in 2006 Matthew set up Eco Energi in an aim to provide low carbon heating solutions to both domestic and business customers alike. Matthew is trained in the design of renewable heating solutions and is also a qualified Code for Sustainable Homes assessor.
Since the company’s inception, despite a difficult economic climate, the company has grown steadily. As Matthew says:
"It hasn’t been easy growing the company during the recent economic downturn, particularly given our focus on quality rather than less-effective, budget solutions. With the experienced team around me now, a growing body of happy customers, ever rising fossil fuel prices and the soon to be confirmed Renewable Heat Incentive, I believe Eco Energi has a really positive future."

Tom graduated from Staffordshire University in 2009 with a BA in Human and Environmental Geography. In September of the same year he joined Eco Energi, initially on a seven week placement through Keele University’s Project Green, assessing the feasibility of a biomass district heating system in Powys, Wales. Having impressed Matt with his organisation and communication skills his project was extended by five weeks after which he was offered a permanent post. He is now an indispensible member of the team and generally the first point of contact for Eco Energi's clients.
